Artists Photo Services
"a service for artists by artists"

The top image was the image provided by the artist. Besides the obvious bad underexposure and bad color the image exhibits a bit of barrel distortion. I could have corrected the distortion but unfortunately the artist cropped the image too close and if I corrected it I would have had to crop into the artwork so I decided just to color correct and sharpen.

This is another image provided by the same artist above. This is a sample of the progressive corrections and formatting for submission to ZAPP electronic submission service. The top image is as provided by the artist. The next image is the initial color correction. The images as provided by the artist did not have enough resolution to meet ZAPP specs so I was forced to upsize the image by approx 100%. Normally this up sizing would not be much of an issue with professionally shot images but the originals were shot with an amateur consumer point and shoot camera.

The up sizing created problems that would degrade the image considerably. 1st the originals were considerably underexposed which inherently creates noise and digital artifacts. In addition since the original was shot with an amateur consumer point and shoot camera the files were not very sharp. All these imperfections are also magnified when up sizing creating even more noise making the image appear even softer and the colors dull

To make the files presentable for juried art show submission I had to add noise reduction sharpening and play a bit with saturation and tone curves to come up with the final image shown here. ZAPP requires specific square file dimensions and if the original is not square the rest of the space must be filled with black.

As you can see with these samples above a lot can be done with a little know how and our soon to be famous Photoshop Kung Fu ;+D.
